Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy
The Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy category came down to the wire at the season finale at Daytona and was won by Team TGM’s TED GIOVANIS. Very close second and third places went to JUAN LOPEZ-SANTINI and ROBERT WISEN.
Maranello Cup
BENOIT BERGERON followed up his Rookie season with a spectacular run in 2020 repeating as Maranello Cup Champion. Close on his heels all season was COLIN COHEN who finished second in the Championship followed by SEB COPPOLA. The Maranello Cup category expands in 2021 with the addition of the Ferrari 458GT class.
Stuttgart Cup
In the Stuttgart Cup category we saw another repeat winner with the Championship going to WILL WACHS in his distinct Gator Gang Cayman. Stuttgart Cup saw great growth in 2020 seeing many new competitors on track in IGT competition. Second in the championship went to TIM HORRELL and third was captured by newcomer FRANK VITIELLO.
In addition to the beautiful trophies, the Champions will receive a stunning BRM Chronograph watch and product gift certificates from Speedcom Communications and RacerInk apparel.
Rookie of the Year
The annual Awards Reception is also an opportunity to acknowledge some very special accomplishments in 2020. First up is the Rookie of the Year. FRANK VITIELLO who joined the series midseason benefited from the double points events at the end of the season (replacing the Covid canceled events) finishing third in the Stuttgart Cup Championship and taking home series Rookie of the Year honors in his SpeedSport Racingprepped Cayman.
Derek Bell Le Mans Award
This is one of our favorite honors named after our series ambassador, Derek Bell and receiving one of Derek’s actual 24 Hours of Le Mans winning trophies. This award which is sponsored by the Gorsline Company went to JUAN LOPEZ-SANTINI and 901 Shop. This very well deserved award is given to Juan to acknowledge his and the team’s commitment to the sport, professionalism, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Juan is an O.G. in the IGT series, capturing the Championship in 2014 and finishing a very close second in 2020, with support from the 901 Shop, also a long time participant in sportsman racing. Their commitment to the IGT series and the growth of sportscar racing, highlights the Derek Bell Le Mans Award qualities. The Gorsline Company will make a donation in Juan’s name to the charity of his choice, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Bob Akin Award
The Bob Akin Award, presented by Hudson Historics, has been given to a list of respected racers and professionals over the IGT Series history including: Bill Riddell, Mark Sandridge, Juan Gonzalez, Paul and John Reisman, Tony Parella and Ted Giovanis. The award is presented to an individual who embraced Bob Akin’s love for sportscar racing, contribution to the sport, devotion to family and community, commitment to sportsmanship, fair play with a sense of humor, articulate and courteous presence and meticulous attention to detail. This year’s Bob Akin trophy, presented by Hudson Historics was awarded to JULIE BENTLEY.
