VIRginia International Raceway was host to one of its largest events of the year this past weekend and certainly one of the biggest spectator crowds International GT has seen this season. Droves of fans crowded the raceway to get a glimpse of renowned racers in the pro-am event hosted by SVRA on Saturday. However, by far the most photographed cars in the paddock had to also be the raciest found amongst the competitors in International GT.

The series saw the return of REG WILLIAMS in the Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy division. Racing his 4 liter Porsche, the North Carolinian calls VIR his home track and showed it, winning the first sprint race overall on Saturday and the 4 liter category in the second sprint race. Unfortunately, he had some shifting woes later in the weekend. But it was great to have him back amongst the IGT ranks!

BARRY FROMBERG was at the head of the Maranello Cup field all weekend. He swept each of the races and won overall honors in the third non-points sprint race on Sunday putting up an epic battle against MARKO RADISIC in his BMW M4. COLIN COHEN would finish second in each of the races on the weekend with a strong showing each time out.

TOM PANK also held his own sweeping the Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy category in every points race during the weekend. However, winning honors went to BOB WISEN for the Sunday morning non-points race. Wisen had a great points weekend with all podium finishes. JEFFREY FREEMAN was back in International GT competition for the first time since Mid Ohio and took a second place in sprint race 2. And long unseen and much missed BILL RIDDELL, series founder, returned to IGT with his 3.8 and its stunning tribute to our military. Riddell found success right out of the gate finishing second in the first sprint race. BEN JOHNSTON out of the Ultra Performance stable, along with the Panks, also had strong performances on the weekend.

The Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy 3.6 liter division enjoyed some of the most competitive racing of the weekend. LUKAS PANK, taking a break from his studies at Virginia Tech, put on an excellent showing, winning both the first sprint race and the enduro! Points leader, ED BAUS would win sprint race 2 and take runner up honors in sprint race one and the enduro. The guys from Ohio had a strong showing as well with TODD SLOAN on the podium for both sprint races and BRAD WAITE taking a third place in the second sprint race. Goldcrest Motorsports would prep and support three cars on the weekend, WILLIAMS, WISEN and Cayman Club Sport entrant MIKE DUNN. Dunn took the win in the first sprint race in the Stuttgart Cup category.

The points race is down to a very slim margin and will certainly be settled at the final round of the championship at the Circuit of the Americas, November 1-4, 2018.
