Circuit of the Americas
Penultimate Thriller in the Lone Star State
International GT returned to Circuit of the Americas for the fifth year and brought a record breaking field. We dodged some rain showers but all the IGT sessions, starting with testing on Thursday, were dry. We welcomed some new teams to International GT for the COTA round and they made quite an impression on track!

Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy
The overall race wins were celebrated in the 4.I category across the board. Sprint race 1 went to newcomer from TOPP Racing’s RYAN YARDLEY #177. Ryan did double duty, racing in the F4 series as well.
Sprint race 2 was won by NATHAN BYRD racing in DAVID TUATY’s #68 TLM Racing entry. The duo teamed to take second in the enduro. While MARK MATHYS #77 won the enduro with co-driver MIKE SKEEN and finished third in sprint race 2. We can’t leave 4.I without mentioning JEFF MOSING #56 from TOPP Racing who just missed the win in sprints 1 and 2, coming in second for both sprint races. Series regular JODY MILLER #3 TLM Racing moved to the 4.I category with a new race car at COTA and stood on the enduro podium in third place with co-driver PIPPA MANN.
In the 4 liter category MARCEL FAYEN #03 FMS Motorsport won sprint race 1. Ruckus Racing with Archangel Motorsports brought two new Porsches in unmistakable day-glow yellow liveries pictured below (yep, race control had trouble telling them apart too!) SCOTT BLIND #45 placed second in sprint 1 and won sprint race 2 in the 4.0 category. Blind’s teammate EVAN STAMER #53 finished third in sprint 1. ALBERT LUKAZIK #47 SpeedSport teamed with STEVAN McALEER to win the enduro. NICHOLAS GROOMBRIDGE #124 SpeedSport, had two podium finishes, he was second in sprint race 2 and third in the enduro.
Among the 3.8 liter cars JIMMY ADAMS #343 Goldcrest Motorsports had a great weekend winning both sprint races and coming in second in the enduro with co-driver CASEY MEARS. A hard fought enduro victory went to BRADY BEHRMAN #428 Hardpoint Racing, with co-driver COBY SHIELDS. Behrman also finished second in sprint race 2. The consistency award goes to JAVIER RIPOLL #191 finishing third in all three races. JOHN BLEAZARD #33 Quirt Racing took a second in sprint race 1. New to International GT, CHARLES BARNES #19, another entry from TOPP Racing, finished third in sprint race 2.

Stuttgart Cup
All year we’ve reported the largest entry in the 3.8 category, however instead of the GT3 Cup 3.8 cars taking the honor, for the first time the largest field was in the Stuttgart Cup Cayman 3.8 liter category. New to International GT competition, GEOFF ISRINGHAUSEN JR #181 Goldcrest Motorsports won sprint races 1 and 2 and was third in the enduro.
The enduro win went to JOE RIZZO #12 RS1 who shared the drive with SPENCER PUMPELLY. Joe was second in sprint 2 and the two podium finishes has Joe taking over the lead in the Stuttgart Cup championship. MARIA MEJIA #11 Quirt Racing, who calls Texas home, took a second in the enduro with ZAC ANDERSON and third in sprint 1. Another Texan on the Stuttgart Cup podium was newcomer STEPHEN BURNS #120 with second in sprint 1and third place in sprint race 2.

Maranello Cup
JUAN FAYEN #17 FMS Motorsport swept the Maranello Cup category in his Ferrari 488 and has claimed the 2022 Maranello Cup Championship.
2020 Maranello Cup Champion BENOIT BERGERON is rejoining the series for the last two races of the season, however the best laid plans did not work out exactly. The beautiful red Ferrari #127 showed up at COTA with the crew, however Benoit was held up in Canada on business. To not waste the opportunity, driving coach JEAN FRANCOIS (JF) DUMOULIN took the car out for practice laps and the crew worked on Daytona set up for next month’s race.
It’s A Wrap From COTA
In the Exhibition category, TOM KOPCZYNSKI #520 RS1 won sprint race 1 in his Cayman and COLIN COHEN #38 Norwood Auto Italia in his Maserati took the wins in sprint race 2 and the enduro which he shared with JASON HART.
NOTE: Our series photographer John Kernodle was not able to join us at COTA however Pete Gorski was on hand to provide all the photos seen here and has more available to drivers and teams. www.gorskiphotoservices.com
John will be back for Daytona.
