FERNANDINA BEACH, Florida (March 21, 2016) – A stout group of first-time and familiar International GT competitors produced several different race winners this past weekend in the International GT Invitational for The Stuttgart Cup at the inaugural Amelia Island Vintage Grand Prix, March 17 – 20.

First-time series driver Mac McGehee made the most of his International GT debut by sweeping this weekend’s four races overall and in The Stuttgart Cup 3.8-liter GT3 category. McGehee was also the weekend’s top overall fastest qualifier in his No. 097 Autometrics Porsche GT3 Cup.

John Higgins raced as an Exhibition class entry in his EuroClassics No. 39 GT3 Cup car and was the top 3.6-liter GT3 in The Stuttgart Cup.

Wayne Wilkerson made his 2016 International GT debut after last racing with the series last year at Daytona and wheeled his No. 901 Porsche GT3 Cup car prepared by Cup Car Solutions.

Shane Lewis, guest driving in the Tom Kievit-owned No. 27 Racelink Cayman S, swept the 3.8-liter Stuttgart Cup Cayman class rounds and frequently battled on track with McGehee.

The 3.4-liter Cayman class provided its typically close competition but that didn’t stop Ed Lane from scoring multiple Stuttgart Cup class wins in his 901 Shop-prepared No. 14 Cayman S that carries the popular livery of the Lowenbrau/Al Holbert Racing Porsche 962s.

Exhibition class victories were earned by Joe Sullivan in his No. 70 Racelink Boxster and the high-flying Jack Gilsdorf, who was racing his classic Cup Car Solutions No. 143 1994 Porsche Supercup race car.

Other drivers making it to victory lane included former series champion Bill Riddell who took 3.4-liter Cayman runner-up honors in all races behind Lane. Riddell races his No. 05 Racelink Cayman S that carries the white-striped livery of a Porsche 918 prototype.

Next up for International GT are The Stuttgart Cup and The Maranello Cup races at the Road America Spring Vintage Festival, May 12 – 15.

About International GT: International GT is a North American racing series that includes three different championships for late model Porsche and Ferrari competitors. Home primarily to sportsman drivers, with the occasional professional driver/coach joining the action in endurance races, International GT annually presents The Stuttgart Cup and The Maranello Cup championships. The Stuttgart Cup includes two classes, one for Caymans and another division that features 996, 997 and other GT3 Cup cars from the last decade. With rare exception, all three divisions compete on track at the same time for individual class honors in their own and exclusive International GT run group at SVRA race events. Most race weekends feature a minimum of one enduro and two sprint “points” races that count toward the season championships.
