Mid Ohio Schedule Update
Mid Ohio Sports Car Course Race Recap
One of our most popular stops on the schedule, International GT made it annual late June trek to the cornfields of Mid Ohio to one of the most challenging and technical circuits in North America.
Light rain impacted the weekend but nothing to deter the competitors as a full field took to the 2.4 mile course with famed areas like the key hole, China beach and the carousel.
The overall win for sprint race 1 went to STEPHEN HAMMAN #72 TLM USA in the GT 4.I category. He DAVID TUATY #68 TLM USA and TODD SLOAN #25 TLM USA put on the best racing all weekend, going nose-to-tail in heated battles for three races, with the much younger Hamman besting the veterans Tuaty and Sloan. Second went to Tuaty for both sprint races, while Sloan took second in the enduro. Obviously TLM USA is turning out some very fast Porsches.

The GT3.8 category made a strong showing all weekend led by NATHAN BYRD #88 who won all three races on the weekend. However more importantly, was running with the overall leaders each race gaining valuable bonus points in the Mission Foods GT3 Cup championship by finishing in front of higher category cars.
Having his most successful race in International GT competition, TOMMY BALLESTER #188 TLM USA, finished second behind Byrd in every race at Mid Ohio.
Third in both sprint races went to series regular and Ohioan, BOB WISEN #27 Ultra Performance. In the enduro, the final podium position went to NICK GROOMBRIDGE #56 SpeedSport Racing. Nick, Scott Blind and Kevin Maxim get the best attendance awards so far this season missing only one event each through Mid Ohio. Hint, all three would also be at Road America the next week.
BRANT GIERE #056 made his annual appearance in International GT competition and as always we were glad to see him. While Ohioan BRIAN HICKS #22 and series regular JAVIER RIPOLL #191 both finished just off the podium in each of the three races.
The GT4.0 category belonged to SCOTT BLIND #45 Rukus Racing/Archangel Motorsports. Scott swept the wins on the weekend and extended his already impressive points lead in the Mission Foods GT3 Cup championship. Also standing on the podium in all three races was JIM HAMMAN #176 TLM USA who scored a pair of seconds and a third place finish. In sprint race 1, ALEJANDRO PIMENTEL #57 completed the podium, finishing third.
After an engine change during Thursday’s testing, LUKAS PANK #40, Ultra Performance would come back to finish second in the sprint race 2.
International GT welcomed RON THOMAS #59X in his Brumos liveried Porsche, who braved a bit of light rain during the weekend. Thomas finished third in sprint race 1.
DAVID WILLENS #981 Goldcrest Motorsports completed the podium in Sunday’s enduring taking third.
Finishing just off the podium in both sprint races was FRANK VITIELLO #10 SpeedSport Racing and SCOTT VANACORE #59 from the TLM USA group.
We always enjoy having COLIN COHEN #15 and the Norwood Auto Italia team in the International GT field. Although Colin went unchallenged at Mid Ohio, as always his gorgeous Ferrari was a fan favorite!
MIKE WARD #711 swept the Stuttgart Cup category on the weekend at his home track. His countless laps around the 2.4 mile Mid Ohio course paid off with a dominant performance. KEVIN MAXIM #18 Goldcrest Motorsports, gave Mike a real run for his money coming up second in all three races.
A major part of what makes International GT a great place to race, beyond the great competition, is the super camaraderie among the drivers and teams, as well as the critical support by the teams and their unmatched efforts for the drivers.
