Following is a letter from Tony Parella, Owner of SVRA with information regarding the upcoming Road Atlanta race event, March 25-29.

Dear Competitors,
I thought it would be important to provide a current update on where we are with the upcoming Road Atlanta event and I would really appreciate your feedback. 

We have taken several steps to create the safest possible experience in our current environment. We have eliminated spectators, the SVRA event dinner, autograph sessions and fan walks. We have revised our registration process, purchased 1000 pens, changed the wristband process and have taken every precaution to create appropriate space in order to try to stop any possible spread of the virus. Further, we plan to hold the drivers’ meetings outside and have revised our tech inspection process, again, to minimize unnecessary close, personal contact. The truth of the matter is, it seems that it would be safer to run the race than go to the grocery store to fight over toilet paper and hand sanitizer. 

I’ve been in constant contact with Road Atlanta management and have consulted with several physicians on what is the best thing to do, in the interest of safety. On the one hand, I believe that the opportunity to race in a non-spectator environment is a diversion that we could all use, however, I have several concerns. The CDC has recommended anyone over 65 years of age stay home. In addition, I’m worried about travel logistics for the teams as well as a possible government mandate to shut down at the last minute. Financially, there isn’t a good outcome for us in the short-term whether we cancel, reschedule or host the race. Our normal expectations of income will be dramatically affected so this decision is strictly about trying to do the right thing. I don’t think anyone will need to leave for Road Atlanta sooner than next Monday. I personally plan to drive from New York to avoid dealing with the airports. 

Here is what I’m requesting; please respond to this email (you can click on the SVRA logo below) and tell me whether or not you would attend the race, if I was able to host it. We currently have a little over 200 cars registered between SVRA, Trans Am and IGT. If we hold the race, I plan to live stream it and will attempt to put it on national television. God knows, we’re all tired of watching high school basketball reruns. Please email me with your thoughts on what you would like to see us do.
