Bill Riddell Wins Sportsman Class after Late Mechanical Sidelines Joe and Joey Sullivan

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (November 17, 2013) – Tom Bloom and Ryan Eversley co-drove to The Stuttgart Cup™ class victory Sunday in the Bob Snodgrass Memorial Enduro at the Historic SportsCar Racing (HSR) Daytona Historics at Daytona International Speedway.

At the wheel of Bloom’s black and red No. 16 Porsche Cayman S, themed after the Advan/Yokohama 956 and 962 Porsches, the winners ran in the lead pack throughout the timed two-hour race. Bloom stayed in close contact with main challenger Bob Schneider in his opening stint while Eversley took a lead the No. 16 wouldn’t lose early in the race’s final hour.

“I got the car in a position where we were about 10 seconds behind Bob, who we figured was our closest competitor,” Bloom said. “It is about where we wanted to run, but I will be honest, I didn’t settle down in the car until about 55 minutes in. I finally settled down, I was pretty excited as I hadn’t raced in a while. It was a lot of fun.”

Schneider turned his white No. 40 Cayman S, that sports the red and blue Martini stripes of the famous “Baby” Porsche 935, over to Chris Hall at the race’s halfway point. The No. 40 teammates finished second to the winners and on the same lap. Third place went to the duo of Matt Dicken and John Lewis in Dicken’s black and silver No. 207 Cayman S.

In the Sportsman division, Bill Riddell continued his early-season success in his No. 05 Cayman S that features a flat-black Porsche 918 Spyder paint scheme. Riddell won Sunday morning’s eight-lap sprint race and backed it up with an unexpected victory in the Snodgrass Enduro in the afternoon.

“I have to say, I haven’t had this much fun door-to-door racing in quite a few years,” Riddell said. “All day long we all had somebody to race with, there was 49 cars or so out there and almost 10 of us in The Stuttgart Cup, and it was just incredible.”

Riddell was set to settle for a second-place finish in the final 10 minutes of the race but inherited the top spot when Sportsman leader Joey Sullivan was forced to pit with a one lap lead. Sullivan and his father and co-driver Joe Sullivan had appeared set for victory in their No. 14 Cayman S that carries the colors of the famous Lowenbrau/Holbert Racing Porsche 962.

“We were biding our time, we knew we had about nine minutes left, and I was coming out of the infield kink and the shifter just went loose in my hand,” Joey Sullivan said. “I had no gear, couldn’t get a gear so I just coasted around and was stuck. There was nothing I could do.”

Despite the late retirement, the Sullivans had built a big enough lead to earn a second-place finish. Darrell Fancher, in his No. 139 Cayman S modeled after the yellow and red “Psychedelic” Porsche 917K, finished third in the Sportsman division.
